On arrival at Madurai Airport or Railway Station, you will be transferred to your hotel. En route, visit Tirupulakundram and later visit Meenakshi Temple, dedicated to the consort of Lord Shiva, with its towering gopurams, rising high above the surrounding countryside. Later, visit the Tirumala Nayak Palace, a gracious building in the Indo-Saracenic style famous for the stucco work on its domes and arches. Later, check in at your hotel. Madurai is an energetic, ancient city on the Vaigai River in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Its skyline is dominated by the 14 colorful gopurams (gateway towers) of Meenakshi Amman Temple. Covered in bright carvings of Hindu gods, the Dravidian-style temple is a major pilgrimage site. Millions attend the processions and ceremonies of April's Chithirai Festival, celebrating Meenakshi and Lord Vishnu. Evening is at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and drive to Tirupati. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel. Thanjavur is a city in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Its many temples include the 11th-century Brihadeeswarar Temple, a vast Chola dynasty-era complex with a frescoed interior. Thanjavur Maratha Palace is home to the centuries-old Saraswathi Mahal Library, with palm-leaf manuscripts, and the Thanjavur Art Gallery, with bronze statues. The Tamil University Museum displays coins, folk artifacts, and musical instruments. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel. (B)
After breakfast, proceed to the full day of sightseeing in Tanjore, including the Brihadisvara Temple. The Brihadeeswarar Temple, which is dedicated to Shiva, was built by Raja Raja Chola I. The construction was completed in 1010, which means that the temple is more than 1000 years old and is one of the best examples of Chola architecture. The Thanjavur Maratha Palace Complex, known locally as Aranmanai, is the official residence of the Bhonsle family, which ruled over the Tanjore region from 1674 to 1855. Its bronzes and handicrafts make Thanjavur one of the highlights of a visit to the South. It is also famous for its silk, one of the best in India. The rest of the day is at leisure. After breakfast, check out of your hotel and drive to Trichy. Upon arrival at Trichy, check in at your hotel. Later, proceed to sightseeing in Trichy, including the ancient temples dedicated to Lord Ganapathi. 434 steps cut out into the rock side and interspersed with shrines lead to the temple, and yet another flight leads to the temple of Lord Shiva. The ascent is climaxed by a magnificent view of the sacred Kaveri River. Visit Srirangam, a massive temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, which contains within its walls a bazaar. Later, return to the hotel for an overnight stay. (B)
